William Wordsworth lodged at ‘Ann Tysons’ whilst attending the Hawkshead Grammar School, 1779 – 1787. More recently the children’s author Beatrix Potter has lived in the Hawkshead area at ‘Hill Top’ Nr Sawrey. Both are now commemorated with museums in the village.

Hawkshead was once an important market town for wool until the industries decline in the early 19th century. It’s now a popular holiday / vacation destination with visitors to the Lake District. This is due to the atmosphere of warmth and friendliness which is apparent from the moment you arrive in Hawkshead.

Within easy reach of Ann Tysons B & B ( Hawkshead ) are the honeypot towns of Ambleside, Coniston, Windermere, Bowness on Windermere, Grasmere, Kendal, Kirkby Lonsdale and Keswick plus the many attractions, historic houses and castles. As well as this there are an abundance of lakes, tarns and mountains to explore.

Evening entertainment can be found in the inns / hotels / pubs in Hawkshead. All have oak beams and open fires and are located within Hawkshead village. They all offer restaurant style dining, a selection of good bar meals, fine wines and beers brewed by the local award winning micro-breweries.

Together with local bus services and an excellent network of footpaths and bridleways, the Lake District National Park provides a multitude of memorable walking / hiking and cycling trips in wonderful countryside.

    Ann Tysons Main Cottage in Hawkshead, Lake District is a 16th/17th century Grade 2* Lakeland cottage, former home of the poet William Wordsworth who lodged here whilst attending Hawkshead Grammar school. We are located in the centre of Hawkshead Lake District with all the amenities of the village on our doorstep.
